3-in-1 Tube Bender

Bend small tubing by hand and it flattens or kinks at the corner. This bender wraps the tube around a grooved wheel so it keeps its round shape through the bend. The wheel has three grooves, for 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 in tube, and angle marks up to 180 degrees. Read this first: it is for soft tube such as copper, aluminum and brass, and for thin steel tube. It is not for pipe, conduit or thick-wall steel.

What you get

One tube bender. Tubing is not included.

Round bends, not kinked ones

Bend the tube. Keep it round.

The tube sits in a groove that matches its size, a hook holds it, and the handle walks it around the wheel. Stop at the angle mark you need: 45, 90, 135, or all the way to 180 degrees.

How it is built

One wheel, three grooves, one hook.

Each groove is cut for one tube size, so the tube is supported on both sides while it bends. The hook at the end of the lower handle holds the tube still, and the upper handle carries a shoe that presses the tube into the groove as you pull.

  • Three sizes on one tool

Grooves for 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 in outside-diameter tube, which are 6, 8 and 10 mm. The sizes are marked on the handle.

  • Angle marks on the wheel

Raised marks at 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180 degrees, so you can stop a bend where you want it without a protractor.

  • Long handles

About 10 in of handle gives you leverage, so the bend takes a steady pull rather than a hard one.

  • 0, R and L marks

Reference marks on the link for lining up a bend measured from the right or from the left end of the tube.

Tube materials are as the maker lists them. We have not run our own bending trials.

Dimensions of the bender

Full specifications

A hand tube bender with three grooves for small-diameter tubing, bending up to 180 degrees.

What it is
A hand-operated lever tube bender. No power, no dies to change.
Tube sizes
1/4 in (6 mm), 5/16 in (8 mm) and 3/8 in (10 mm) outside diameter. Tube is measured by outside diameter. Pipe is not, so pipe sizes do not match.
Tube materials
Copper, aluminum, brass and thin steel. As listed by the maker. No maximum wall thickness is published.
Bend angle
0 to 180 degrees. Marked at 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180.
Bend radius
Not published. It is fixed by the wheel and cannot be changed.
Length
275 mm (10.8 in) overall. The maker's drawings also give 260 mm for the lower handle and 26 cm and 21 cm for the two handles.
Hook
About 37 x 70 mm (1.45 x 2.75 in).
Material
Metal. The maker gives no alloy or grade.
Weight
Not published.

How to use it

Pick the groove, hook the tube, pull.

Four steps for bending a tube
  1. Choose the groove

Open the handles and find the groove that matches your tube: 1/4, 5/16 or 3/8 in.

  2. Seat the tube

Lay the tube in the groove and under the hook, with your start mark at the 0 on the wheel.

  3. Pull to the angle

Bring the upper handle around in one steady motion and stop at the mark you need, anywhere from 0 to 180 degrees. Open the handles and lift the tube out.

Bend slowly and evenly. A fast, hard pull is what flattens tube. Mark where the bend should start before you put the tube in, because a bend cannot be moved once it is made.

Compared with the usual options

Lever bender, spring bender, or bending by hand?

Three ways to put a bend in small tubing. Here is where this one wins and where it does not.
