Pivot-Head Ratchet Screwdriver — 180° Swing Head, 8 Bits and 5 Sockets Stored in the Handle
Regular price $14.95

For the screw you can’t get square to

A screwdriver that bends at the neck and carries its whole kit in the handle.

Most screws are easy. The awkward ones sit at the back of a cabinet, under a sink or tight against a wall, where a straight screwdriver needs your hand to be somewhere it can’t go. The head of this one swings on a joint up to 90° to either side. A collar marked with the ratchet settings lets you keep turning without letting go. And the handle opens to hold eight bits, five small sockets and the adapter that drives them.

Read this first: it is a hand screwdriver for small fasteners.

It is not a socket wrench and it is not an impact driver. The five sockets are small metric sizes, 6 to 10 mm, for the nuts and bolt heads on furniture, appliances and fixtures. There are no inch-size sockets in the set. And the grip is a screwdriver handle, so a rusted or seized fastener needs a proper wrench, not this.

14 pieces inside

8 bits, 5 sockets, 1 adapter

193 mm long

7.6 in, head straight, no bit fitted

Round the corner

Put the handle where your hand fits

A joint sits between the handle and the bit holder, and the head swings on it to either side, as far as a right angle — a 180° arc in all. Straight, it is an ordinary in-line screwdriver. Bent over, it becomes an L: the handle stays clear of the cabinet side or the wall while the bit meets the screw straight on.

The maker shows it straight, at 45° and at 90° each way. For a stubborn screw, straighten the head if there is room: that is where you can push hardest along the bit, and the joint is not being asked to hold an angle.

Got a whole row of screws in a tight spot? Our right-angle drill attachment does the same job on a drill.

The gold ratchet collar with its direction marks, and a Phillips bit in the holder

The ratchet

Turn, swing back, turn again

The gold-colored collar behind the bit holder is marked with the ratchet settings: an arrow each way and a dot between them. Set to tighten or loosen, the bit drives one way and the handle clicks back freely the other. You twist, relax your wrist and twist again, without re-gripping or lifting the bit out of the screw.

The middle setting locks the ratchet and the driver turns solid in both directions, like a plain screwdriver. That is the one to use when you want to feel exactly what a screw is doing — the first turns into a fresh hole, or the last snug quarter-turn on a hinge.

The handle opened: two green covers swing out, bits on one face of the core and sockets on the other

In the handle

Open it, and the whole kit is there

Push the latch next to the nose and the two covers of the grip swing apart. One face of the core holds the eight bits and the socket adapter, each in its own slot with its label printed beside it; the other face holds the five sockets.

Close it and the whole set goes into a toolbox, the glove box or the kitchen junk drawer as one piece: no loose bits, and no hunting for the size you need.

The five sockets, 10 to 6 mm, above the socket adapter and the eight bits

What’s inside

Eight bits, five sockets, one adapter

Bits: Phillips PH0, PH1 and PH2; slotted 3 mm and 6 mm; a T15 star (Torx-style); 5 mm hex; and a U6 fork tip. They are ordinary ¼ in (6.3 mm) hex-shank bits, so other ¼ in bits you already own fit the holder too.

Sockets: 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 mm. The adapter goes into the bit holder like a bit, and the sockets push onto its square end, where a spring ball holds them. That is “14 in 1”: fourteen pieces, one handle.

Straight answers

Five things we would rather you knew now

The magnet is the maker’s claim, not ours. The maker’s listing calls it magnetic, but none of their pictures shows the magnet at work — a screw hanging from the bit, say — and we haven’t tested a unit. Plan on starting a screw with your fingers, the way you would with any screwdriver.

We can’t tell you how firmly the head holds an angle. The maker shows it straight, at 45° and at 90°, but doesn’t say whether it locks there or how hard you can push before it moves. For anything stubborn, straighten it.

There is no torque rating. The maker does not publish one, so we do not quote one. Treat it as what it is: a screwdriver with a clever head, driven by your wrist.

It is not insulated. The head, holder and sockets are bare metal. Switch the power off at the breaker before you touch an outlet, a switch or a light fixture.

The pictures are the maker’s, not our photographs. Most look like computer renders, and small details differ between them: the lettering on the handle (including the model code in our lead image), the engravings on the bits, the finish of the collar. Treat those as indicative. Most of them show the green version; the maker’s pictures of the orange and red ones are the same render in another color. The bit list and the five socket sizes agree wherever the maker labels them.

Getting the most from it

Match the bit to the screw. A PH1 in a PH2 screw slips and chews the head. If the bit wobbles in the recess, try the next size up.

Press, then turn. Many stripped screws come from too little push rather than too much twist. With the head straight, lean in on the handle. With it bent over, steady the head behind the bit with your other hand instead of pushing on the handle.

Close the handle after use. Put each bit back in its labeled slot and close the covers, and the set stays complete.

193 mm (7.6 in) long with no bit fitted; the head swings up to 90 degrees either way; ratchet tighten, locked or loosen; 8 bits, 5 sockets and a socket adapter in the handle

Questions people ask

Before you order

Can I use it as a normal straight screwdriver?

Yes. With the head straight it works like any in-line screwdriver, and with the ratchet on the middle setting it turns solid both ways, with no clicking.

Will my other bits fit?

Yes, if they have a standard ¼ in hex shank, like most screwdriver and drill-driver bits. Round-shank bits won’t fit.

Are the sockets metric or inch sizes?

Metric: 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 mm. There are no inch sizes in the set. Use them on metric nuts and bolt heads only.

Will my own sockets fit the adapter?

We can’t promise it. The maker doesn’t give the size of the adapter’s square end. The “6.3 mm” in one of their pictures matches the ¼ in hex shank that goes into the holder, not necessarily the square. The five sockets in the set are the ones shown fitting it.

Is the bit holder magnetic?

The maker’s listing says so. Nothing in their pictures shows it and we haven’t tested a unit, so we do not promise it. Start screws by hand.

Is it good for car or motorcycle work?

For light jobs: interior trim screws, small covers, and metric nuts and bolt heads that take a 6 to 10 mm socket — that is the size across the head, not the bolt’s thread. It does not replace a ratchet wrench, and anything tight, rusted or torqued to a figure needs a proper wrench. Keep the bare metal away from battery terminals.

Can I use it on outlets and switches?

Only with the power off at the breaker. The tool is not insulated.

How does the storage open?

Push the latch next to the black nose, and the two covers swing out, hinged at the butt end of the handle. Fold them back together to close.

What does “14 in 1” count?

The pieces that go with the handle: 8 bits, 5 sockets and 1 socket adapter. The screwdriver itself is the “1”.
