Quick-Adjust Water Pump Pliers

Press the button at the joint, slide the jaw up to the nut, let go. The jaw stays at that opening and the handles do the squeezing. The jaw faces are flat and smooth, with no teeth, so they sit on the flats of a nut or a fitting the way a wrench does. The 7 inch opens to 41 mm; the 10 inch opens to 46 mm and has the longer handles.

Which finish

Bright silver finish all over. Same tool, same two sizes; the maker does not say what the finish is.

Which size

A set is one 7 inch and one 10 inch in the finish you picked: two tools, both the same color. The opening picture puts a black one beside a silver one only to show the two sizes together. The red grips are a plain dipped coating and the maker publishes no insulation rating, so keep the tool off live wiring.

A wrench you squeeze

Set it with a thumb. Turn it with a squeeze.

One button at the joint frees the jaw; a toothed track holds it where you leave it. The jaw faces are flat and smooth, so they close on the flats of a nut, a valve body or a fitting like a wrench, not like a set of teeth. Two sizes, two finishes, red dipped handles.

  • 7 inch opens to 41 mm, 10 inch to 46 mm
  • Push-button setting on a toothed track
  • Flat, smooth jaw faces with no teeth

How the button works

One button frees the jaw. The track holds it.

The joint rides in a slot with teeth along both sides. Press the button and the lower jaw slides freely toward or away from the upper one; let go and it catches on the teeth at that opening. From there it works like any pliers: squeeze the handles and the two faces close on the work.

  • Press to move, release to hold

The button is the only control. There is no screw to wind and no loose part to drop. Let go and the jaw catches on the track; the maker calls it a quick lock.

  • Flat, smooth jaw faces

Both gripping faces are flat and bright, with no teeth. They are made to sit on the flats of a hex nut or the body of a fitting. On a smooth round pipe there is nothing to bite with, so do not expect the grip of toothed pliers there.

  • Two openings, two lengths

The 7 inch opens to 41 mm, just under 1-5/8 in, and is 180 mm long. The 10 inch opens to 46 mm, just under 1-13/16 in, and is 265 mm long. Measure across the flats of the nut before you choose.

  • Dipped grips, not insulated ones

The red handles are a dipped coating the maker calls rubber. No insulation rating is published for them, so this is not a tool for live electrical work.

The pictures here are the maker's own renders. The maker promises “multi speed quick adjustment” but does not publish how many positions the track has.

  • A set: one 7 inch and one 10 inch in the same finish

The maker shows nothing else with the tool: no pouch, no case, no card.

Where it is used

Three jobs from the maker's own pictures

The same move every time: thumb the jaw up to size, squeeze, turn. The flat faces want something with flats or a solid body to sit on. Keep it off anything live: the red grips are a plain dipped coating and the maker publishes no insulation rating for them.

The silver pliers gripping a rusted hex bolt head

Hex bolts and nuts

Set the jaws to the flats and squeeze. The two faces sit on opposite sides of the hex, the way a wrench does, up to 41 mm across on the 7 inch and 46 mm on the 10 inch.

The silver pliers on the body of an outdoor water fitting

Valves and fittings

The body of a faucet, a hose fitting or a union. These jaws have no teeth, which is the point on a fitting you want to keep clean. We still make no promise about soft or plated finishes: put a rag between if it matters.

The silver pliers closed on a white plastic water pipe

Round pipe, with a caveat

The maker shows it closed on a plastic water pipe. With no teeth on the jaws, treat that as holding and positioning. For turning a stuck round pipe, toothed pliers are the right tool.

Using it

Press, slide, squeeze.

The black pliers lying open beside a nut and two bolts, with an inset of a thumb on the adjusting button
  1. Press the button and slide the jaw

Hold the tool by its handles, press the button at the joint and slide the lower jaw until the work just fits between the two faces.

  2. Let go of the button

The jaw catches on the toothed track. If it lands between two positions, nudge it to the nearer one. The maker does not publish how fine the steps are.

  3. Squeeze and turn

Close the handles so both flat faces are on the work, then turn. On a hex, sit the faces on two opposite flats, not on the corners.

Keep the track and the joint free of grit, and wipe the tool dry after wet work. The maker publishes nothing about rust resistance for either finish, so we will not promise any.
